Questions & Troubleshooting / Boolean problem
« on: May 09, 2012, 01:31:46 PM »
Hi all,

I have a scanned LEGO figure hair piece (in attached zip, hair.obj) and I want to cleanup inside where there are unwanted elements (scan support, unscanned areas). My idea was to "substract" head shape (head.obj) using boolean difference. But despite many tries with different mesh size, I can't get valid difference (always red). Boolean union works fine. Any hint?

Thanks in advance!

Edit:
OK, I found a way. I first deleted and filled the whole inside to get a smooth surface there, and then difference worked. Any other suggestion still welcome ;)

Questions & Troubleshooting / STL import broken

...MM complains that there is an error reading file - even on stl files exported with MeshMixer!
Attached such a file (extension changed).

Gallery / My modest use of MeshMixer...
« on: March 23, 2012, 01:36:31 PM »
Since this forum is desperately quiet these days... here is a short preview of my MeshMixer use. I am a member of LDraw organisation, whose goal is to create 3D models of LEGO parts. Organic shapes are tough to create, fortunately 3D scan is now affordable (I use David laser scanner software).
Raw scan of a horse figure head...

Smoothed, assymetric parts are set apart, more or less symmetric parts are mirrored

Edges are enhanced.

Result is down sampled (I used Meshlab), and converted to a LDraw parts. The symmetry allows reuse of half of the mesh. Edge outlines lines are added on sharp angles.

Patterns are created.

...and here is the full result, the whole range of LEGO Fabuland people...

Bug Reports / Triangulation problem in plane cut
« on: February 12, 2012, 06:44:40 AM »
Sometimes when cutting a mesh, the cut plane gets a radial triangulation mesh. Worse, sometimes it gets outside the boundary, see attached image (done with MM bunny, first closed on bottom using an horizontal plane cut)

Bug Reports / Artifacts while using mirror
« on: February 10, 2012, 03:44:09 AM »
In some cases, while moving mirror plane, I get pointy shapes appearing, that translate into real polygons if I accept the operation at that time. See attached images (also sent you the files to your dropbox).

Is there a way (maybe I missed it?) to snap the mirror (or cut) plane to main directions?

Bug Reports / Weird problem with a mesh
« on: January 18, 2012, 07:34:16 AM »
For some reason, if I select the triangles of inner tube of this Yoda mesh (select one + select connected), then discard them, those behind face remain visible. They seem to be really deleted (they can't be selected, and after a save/reload, they are no longer there) but remain displayed despite many other operations on the mesh.

Bug Reports / Parts library display problem
« on: June 23, 2011, 05:45:28 AM »
Hello,
I have a new computer with very basic graphics: integrated Intel Core I5 HD Graphics. Overall MM6 works fine on it except that parts library display is completely jagged (see attached screen capture).

Bug Reports / stl export?
« on: May 20, 2011, 01:06:21 PM »
When exporting meshes, I can choose stl file format, but all I get is an empty file containing just
solid "test"
endsolid "test"
Is it a bug or a non implemented feature? BTW, any chance to get someday a stl import? (very, very low priority  ;) )

Bug Reports / Triangulation problem
« on: May 19, 2011, 01:33:38 PM »
Hello,
I am new to Meshmixer and I am very impressed by its capabilities (and even more by the speed at which you add new awesome ones!).
I have a little problem nonetheless... In the attachment you can see a triangulation problem, resulting of a meshmixing operation. What bothers me is not so much the triangluation problem in itself, but the fact that it doesn't show as a mesh blue boundary when I hit "b".
