Autosave works like a charm, I didn't even notice it while sculpting (I hope I will be able to say the same thing after I will add more detail to the model I'm working on), and after a crash the program asked me if I wanted to resume the last save: that's brilliant. ;D Oh, and thanks also for the import message. ;)
I tweaked the autosave time from the ini file, I found it on 'document and settings\[username]\appdata\unknownware', no problem. 8)
Thanks for the explanations. I still didn't understood what are the commands for free rotate; as for the brush jumping, I have to admit there are times when it becomes very annoying. Maybe a tutorial could come in handy.

I didn't had the time to do anything a little more 'challenging' so I can't tell about stability; I hope I'm gonna find the time to sculpt something later.
Just a couple of things:
- do you think you could make the time for the new autosave function customizable? Maybe a save every 30 sec. is a little too much.
- one odd thing I didn't pointed out before (I just forgot to mention it :P) is that if the brush size is too big for the surface you're working on, it seems to jump backwards; so to return it where you need it to be you have to reduce the brush size.
Now, for the moronic questions:
What is 'free rotate'? I checked it but nothing happened.
What means 'previews/next view moved to ( and ), now [ and ] control brush size'?
And what are 'fix for OpenGL shader compiler crashes' and 'stamp darkness'? ???
Besides that camera controls for pen seem to work fine, the symmetry line, the .mix format and the autosave are great and, in general, with simple models it seems to work fine. ;)

To put it simply a clay brush is a sculpt brush that builds up volumes keeping things flat (and visually it mimics the look of clay too! ;D). I think pixologic has been the first to come out with this name for one of its brushes.
Anyway the point here is that with your volume brush you have more control over pushing and pulling than d1 or d2 gives you and that speeds up things quite a bit.
But what's more incredible is that I didn't noticed that earlier: that's insane! :P

As I said, at the time I didn't care about the poly count just for test purpose, I expected that lack of ram could be the reason of my crashes, especially after you pointed that possibility out on the wish list thread. Thanks for the link to the reduce tutorial, I think I got how things work but it can come in handy anyway. ;)
I certainly got the error message many times and the last save for golem was one of them (that's funny but, now that you mention it, I think I saved an image of the last error message. Next time I'm gonna post it), but I cant't say for sure if I got it every time the program crashed.
Anyway I will try and test the x64 version too, just to see if the problem comes out again with that.

:o I wasn't expecting a new alpha to come out so fast. I'm gonna try it as soon as I can and I'll let you know how it works for me. ;D

I cant believe this: I realized only working on the other image (golem) that the last brush is the equivalent of a clay brush. Wow, now sculpting is going to be way easier. This is my first (very quick) doodle using it, just your average baldie. Maybe next time I will sculpt hairs too. ;D

Actually I forgot to copy the log after the crashes, and I realized too late that the program overwrites it every time. That's why I didn't attached more log files, sorry. :P I'm quite sure I was using the brush d1 anyway. Otherwise it could have been the move or the smooth (with shift); I can't really say for sure, sorry.
BTW thanks for working on the autosave function, sometimes it can be a life saver. ;)
As for the crash while saving I tried to add some details on the same model on win 7 x64 and it have been able to save the project. It can be just a coincidence or maybe there is another reason, but I'm wondering if it can be a ram problem or something like that (as I already pointed out in the wish list thread I'm working on win XP 32bit).

The brush size is always too big for detail sculpting. It would be good to scale it a little more when you zoom in.

Another thing I noticed is that if you have a model opened and you 'accidentally' click the 'import sphere' button, it loads it without asking for closing the current project. I did it once by mistake and I felt like a moron, so I think it would be good to have a confirmation message, something like "you're trying to import another object so this project will be closed. Would you really like to continue?" or something like that. ;)

Second try, sculpted out from a sphere. I don't really know what this thing is, I started sculpting with no symmetry and no plan at all. The program crashed countless times, mainly while I was sculpting, and I reached the million of polygons. I didn't bother to manage the polycount just for the sake of research, so this model as you see it is 1.8 million polygons (I could have done it with less than a half maintaining almost all details). As I said the most frequent crashes happened while I was sculpting, four or five times the program freezed and three times it crashed while saving. Because it also happened with the last save, I lost the details and some of the branches you can see in this image, so this is the only proof I have that I did them. :P
Anyway I'm attaching the logs with two examples, one is for crash while saving and the other for crash while sculpting.

Well, I'm working on a 32 bit system so the instability I experienced could have been due to that reason.
Anyway the latest release seems to be way more stable, up until now it didn't crashed not even once. 8)

Yeah, I reinstalled the latest release that I downloaded some hour ago on win xp and now I have all the new functions (batch, poly count and rendering included 8)).
Probably adding a date after the name is a good idea to avoid confusion. Thanks for the explanation anyway, I was a little worried about my pc... ;D

Yep, my bad, now I have it too. You can ignore my last comment. :-X

Making refine/reduce a single parameter would be indeed a good thing, I think the way it is now can be a little confusing at first.
How could I forget to point that out before... the polycount! :o - That's absolutely a must if you want to have the slightest idea of how much time you have before your project will blow up to your face.

If I remember correctly it happened while using the move brush; anyway, now that I found the batch file, whenever something like that occurs I will send the log to you right away. ;)
It's just a speculation, but I think that it was probabily due to an excessive poly count. Time will tell, I guess.
As for the crash during the save, luckily it wasn't the first time it happened so I got used to it... another time it crashed, asked to save the project and the resulting file was... a corrupt obj. Oh, well... :P
