Open-source it!

(1/2) > >>

furrykef:
I've been wanting to make an open-source clone of Sculptris for a while now, but I haven't started because I knew I'd never have the time, patience, and motivation. So I found this and my first thought was, "All right! Now I can just work on this instead of making my own!" Only, of course, I can't!

I realize the FAQ addresses this and the primary concern appears to be that you might eventually want to use it to put food on the table. Well, that's certainly understandable. But if you make it open source, you will make a better app, which will attract more users, and if you have enough users, then simply asking for donations should cover making a living. Just be honest about what the donations would be for. ;)

I think it makes more sense than trying to compete with Pixologic and Sculptris on your own, at any rate.

There are already open-source brushing tools being developed for Blender: http://farsthary.wordpress.com/

And I don't believe for a second that donations would pay enough.

There are other systems..

I wouldn't mind paying for MM in the future, just so long as it doesn't cost me a months rent like some other packages!

HolyEnigma74:
Cluly, im sure you can send him donations if you want to.   :P
