i am prepared to eventually pay for this software as well.

i think it overtook hexagon already and is approaching silo with big steps, wich would put it in the 100$ range already.
But i can easily imagine this thing become even heavier!
Hell, that "GeoBrush" feature alone would be worth gold!  :o (if properly implemented)

i feel how serious this will become will be mostly determined by how the UI/workflow will ultimately turn out.
i too picture it a lot like PS with floating panels, deformation layers and multiple floating projects where you can select, drag n drop geometry (parts) back n forward or Geo-paint from A to B.

Its quite easy to see this tool to become a strong asset for any pipeline, and that farely soon judging by the insane speed of development.
That is ... once RMS figured out what HE whats MM to become  ;D
